    Gas Pedal / Accelerator lever

Did I reverse my lever , and or is it supposed to make a bend outward rather than inward ?

I hope I don't have to reverse it , but it does make contact with the ignition shield brace.

    See Photo attached ,

Appears to me to be correct. You may need to bend the accelerator lever toward the distributor a little or lengthen the card rod.

It is a curved lever. It can't be reversed. If it could be it would curve downward into the intake manifold.

Isn't your ground strap mounted on the wrong side of the lever? I believe the bolt inserts from the outboard side.

Your answer is in the factory assembly manual........same for ground strap.

                Russ and Michael,

Just for clarification, and in the way of proof that I do in fact consult the AIM before I post questions. I offer this up for your perusal. . Sometimes it’s a huge help, sometimes it a cause of confusion. At least to me !

Case and point . The bottom of the accelerator lever has a flush side and a folded over or boxed side . . (see photo ) In the AIM - UPC 6 – D1 it appeared to me to show the flush side mounted to the swivel/support assembly , and the boxed/folded over side, on the outside . So that is how I attached it , and as Russ confirmed, I got it right .

However , as Russ pointed out in his response “It is a curved lever. It can't be reversed.. If it could be it would curve downward into the intake manifold.” . Well I may not have thought it all the way through, however I did realize it would make it point in that direction. Coincidentally , that’s sort of the way it is pictured in the AIM on UPC-6-D2 and D3, and not at all how it looks on my car . (see photo 2)..Further if you notice the arched cut out half way up the lever , on mine it is on the rear of the lever , while the picture on page D3 clearly shows it in the front .

So (A. ) since my lever was rubbing on the ignition shield brace ,(B.) seemed to be pointing the wrong way ,(C.) me being a novice at this , and (D.) given the chance, often getting it wrong , I decided to ask the experts which way was correct.

As always glad you guys are out there .

                Jim

                  Jim,

Your car is coming along beautifully. What an immaculate job you're doing. I go thru the same issues with the AIM, service manual & shop manual. If I think there may be more than one way to do something after reading all that, I always ask the question here on the forum. I'm numb to the few snide remarks that come back because I know I will always get a straight answer from most here on the forum. By the way, did you restore your carb yourself? Again, beautiful work.

                    Thanks Leif ,

I'm trying to make it the best car I can.

The Carb was restored by Jerry Luck awhile back. He was recommended by quite a few on this forum. He wasn't cheap or quick, but he did a great job.
