    Dave McDonald documents, cars, etc.

    Re: davemcdonald.net

There are some great documents, racing and personal, at this site. Some really good pics of the 00 Corvettes and documentation. Check the options on the Z06 window sticker and pics at Amelia Island including one of an NCRS/TDB member.

www.davemacdonald.net/ . The history is overwhelming. I know his family, but never had the chance to meet Dave. He was good friends with many So. Cal Corvette race people.

Check out this U-Tube post of DAVE, BOB BONDURANT and JERRY GRANT picking up their 1963 Z0-6 Corvettes at the St. Lois factory and driving them home. The cars were then all raced at the RIVERSIDE TIMES GRAND PRIX October 16-17, 1962 when America saw the first SCCA Road race of these great cars.

Thanks for correcting. I was at Indy in '64. Sad day.

I remember Carroll Shelby's words about Dave, he was, along with Bondurant, Shelby's proudest acquisition from Zora's team and of course the reason Shelby won so many FIA championships. MacDonald drove the famous CSX2287 to its' first victory at Sebring in early '64, that car is now honored as the first automobile chosen for the US Secretary of the Interior's National Historic Vehicle Registry.

Discovered and bought the Dave MacDonald car in Michigan October 19 1984. From the way it looked it appeared to have been sent back to the GM Tech Center and retrofitted with a later year interior. I believe 1964/65. Roll bar and big tank had been removed. Still had the HD brakes etc. Individual who I bought it from told me he launched the original engine with the FI unit on I-75 heading south. He traded the FI unit for a replacement engine. Car was painted bright yellow when I got it. Mike Pillsbury found the original paper work for the car at Don Steves Chevrolet. I recently sent the original set of keys to Dave's wife and son, along with some photos 1984 version

Thanks for the update David. You have lots of great history. We old guys need to sit down in front of the video and record the history for the young guys.

You sure are right Jim! There is so much first hand knowledge and experiences out there that will be lost forever. It would be great for each Chapter, Regional, and National event to have discussions/presentations that are recorded and available for all. Even if the discussions are of local races, shows, related jobs, etc. there are a lot of interesting and valuable stories in the membership. Those of us who were fortunate enough to experience the 50's and 60's (and later decades) won't be remembering or kicking forever. I wish we had recorded your Texas Regional presentation and conversation Jim.

Posting as much as we can here is a start.

I have and am adding all my PRESENTATIONS to DROPBOX, so if you want to have it let me know. It is the POWERPOINT / KEYNOTE photo file, not a video taping. And there is a lot more of this story I could add and tell. All interesting if you like the history.
