I am looking at buying a set of 4 1963 wheels off of a seller's car he has since sold. Will they judge correctly or lose points if installed on my late production 64? There is a lot of information on 63-64 wheels in the archives however it does not answer my question. I do know of a set of 5 1964 wheels for sale. Can anyone tell me exactly what should be stamped on each side of the rim and on the inside? If I buy these for more than the available reproductions I want to be sure I won't have a point deduction. Or what is the hit with the repros. Thanks all! Michael Kalogridis (518) 370-8796

Re: 1964 wheels.
Michael,
The 1963 and 1964 original steel wheels are the same except for the date code. As best as I can remember the only stamping on the front face was "GM".
There is a very slim possibility the very late 1964's might have been issued the 3939814 wheel which has a slightly larger hub hole and a small hole punched into one of the nubs but the consensus seems to be that this was only a service wheel. GM # 3939814 is listed in my 1964 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1963). I once owned a NOS 3939814 wheel dated "3 65" as well as a used 3939814 wheel dated "5 64".
Refer to the link below.

Re: 1964 wheels.
63 and 64 wheels are made to only fit on non disc brake cars, the back is what is different. The date is on the inside under the tire so can not be seen when judged. Repro's wheels can have correct front but have back that fits over disc brakes and can be easily seen.- Top

Re: 1964 wheels.
There are no correctly configured 63/4 reproduction wheels availible. You will loose NO points putting 63 dated original OEM Corvette wheels on a 64. The dates are not visible with a tire mounted and they are configured the same.
