    67 l71

Hey my parts have arrived from David Crane and I am ready to start putting together this date coded restamped motor that I have for my 67. Just wondering about a couple of things, I bought the pre-assembled long block with the car last year, it was actually assembeled about six years ago, and apparently built completely stock , solid lifter cam , 11-1 pistons ect. Do you think I should tear it all down again, and possibly replace the valve springs. What about the compression ratio? Will I be able to run it on pump gas ( I am in Canada , we have Chevron 94) should I change to a roller valve train, I do want it to appear completely stock, but the more performance I can get the better. Any suggestions would be appreciated

With the OE .028" head gasket the actual compression ratio was closer to 10.5, so you need to measure deck clearance before you install the heads and compute the CR. 94 PON is equivalent to 98-99 RON and should not be a problem.

The OE camshaft is very good, but needs valve springs of the second second design dual type with integral valve seals, or equivalent aftermaket. Forget roller cams.

Head massaging will improve top end power without affecting normal idle or driving behavior.

All these issues have been discussed extensively, and since you're quite new to the TDB I would advise you to do some archive searchilng.
