    63 distributor drive gear

I have a 63=327=340HP. Can some one tell me if the distributor drive gear is the same for the 250-300-340 and 360 HP engines

The response is not what I am looking for. The response reference is for transmissions. My questions is for distributor drive gear.

          Richard-------

The distributor drive gear is the same for ALL 1963 Corvette engines as well as all other 1963 Chevrolet V-8 engines. As a matter of fact, while several different successive part numbers were used over the years, the 1955-86 drive gears for all Chevrolet V-8 engines are interchangeable. The last available part number, GM #1958599, has been discontinued without supercession.

are you talking about the ignition distributor drive gear or the speedometer drive gear on the tailshaft of the tranny. and if you are talking the ignition gear , are you inquiring about the drive gear(driven by the camshaft) or the tach drive gear. mike

Please someone tell me where transmissions were referenced. Mikes response was spot on!

Did all distributor drive gears have the same pin hole diameter, let's say from the 1955 thru 1986, being as how the pin changed from a tapered pin to a roll pin??? Having a 57 distributor, along with my 63 and an aluminum body one of unknown aftermarket replacement origin in my parts stock, the only difference I can see is the pin.

I'm not familiar with the tapered pin gears. However, the thing I can't figure out is how the GM #1958599 could SERVICE back to 1955 if there was a difference in pin size/configuration for the early distributors.

I do believe I could replace the tapered pin now in my 57 distributor with a roll pin, but I never did. I had the tapered pin out at some time in the past, but replacing it was not easy apparently. I must have had trouble driving it all the way in as I ground off the end. It's kind of hard to remember what you did and why over 50 years ago. I know I replaced the plate and I've kept it around as a spare. It is sort of work of art, what with it's oil pipe with snap cap, etc.

Thanks, the older string of threads relating to the distributor drive gear index is what I was looking for.
