In the next few days I am going to order a cam (Federal Mogul CS113R) and lifters for a "548" block cast in Feb of 57. My question involves the lifters. I would like to use an "Edge Orifice Lifter" for several reasons but mostly to cut down on the oil to the top end. My first choice in lifters is the Seal Power AT840R but thus far they seem to be unavailable and or discontinued. The "replacement" lifter is the Seal Power AT992 which I believe is a "Piddle Valve Lifter" but with reduced oil flow. In my search for information on lifters I found that Crower lists a mechanical flat tappet lifter(s) (#66909-16) that is an Edge Orifice design. My question to the members is this. What problems would I face by running a Federal Mogul manufactured cam and set of Crower manufactured lifters? Are standards such that the cam lobe and the foot of the lifter be compatible regardless of the manufacturer? Additional thoughts are welcomed.

Re: Cam and Lifters, Federal Mogul, Crower
Hi Terry,
I would recommend sticking with cam and lifters from the same manufacturer. I suspect that if you run into problems, you will have a very difficult time getting any satisfaction. Why not buy a cam and lifters kit from Federal Mogul? Hopefully Duke will chime in.

Re: Cam and Lifters, Federal Mogul, Crower
The piddle valve lifters increase overhead oil flow about 20 percent relative to the edge orifice type, but it's not that big a deal. Generally cam manufacturers will not honor warranty claims unless you use a set of their lifters, however, they should be interchangeable without problem.
Suggest you call Crower (ask for Brian Crower) and Crane (you'll probably be talking with Jerry Clay) and ask them the questions.
Let us know what they say.
