Question for Joe Lucia or anybody-Blue painted motor mounts on 1973's??

Has anybody heard of original blue painted motor mounts on 73 Corvettes or Camaro's?? This has come up on a Camaro Discussion Board. Several members have found this and claim the mounts have never been off the car. Thanks in advance. Larry

    Larry------

1973 Corvettes and 1973 Camaros used different motor mounts. The 1973 Corvette mount was GM #330973. I have MANY NOS examples of this mount [none for sale] and absolutely NONE are painted blue. I can't say about the Camaro mounts.

By the way, the original 1973 Camaro motor mounts were GM #377292. If you could find an NOS example of one of those, maybe the question of whether they were painted blue or not could be answered. Under this part number, they were discontinued in October, 1976.

Joe: Here is picture of the restored mounts by a member:

my 73, 1 owner that was never modified in any way did not have blue mounts like you show or any trace of ever being blue.

These are the GM #377292 style Camaro motor mounts, last available under GM #459021. The only reason I can see for the blue paint is as an aid to factory workers installing the mounts so they install them in the correct orientation. I've never installed these type mounts but it may be that there is only one correct orientation even though the mounts appear symmetrical. So, that may be why the blue paint was applied----to ensure that no one got it wrong. There had to be a reason for it and that's the only one I can come up with. This would have been unnecessary on Corvette mounts since there is only one possible orientation.
