Re: Knock out the knockouts?
Why knock them out.? I'd leave them in place unless you are concerned that a third party can see the codes.- Top

Re: Knock out the knockouts?
Kent-Moore makes a tool to push them out, but I don't have a J- number for it. I once saw one at a dealership where we had a car show. I don't think there is much use for that kind of tool any longer, so if one knew the number one might search the Internet for someone offering one for sale.Terry- Top

Re: Knock out the knockouts?
I'd bring the keys to the parts counter of any long-established GM dealership in your area, and ask if they have the tool to pop yours out. Even try newer dealerships, if the old-timers can't help you.
Anyone that has the tool, I'm sure they'll gladly do it for you. Takes all of 4 seconds per key.

Re: Knock out the knockouts?
Here's the old tool again if nobody has ever seen one. If nobody in your area has one, send me your keys and I will gladly punch them and return ! Tom Hendricks c/o BUDS Chevrolet. P.O. Box 128 St. Marys, Ohio 45885I used to put the key over a 3/8 socket and knock em out with a screwdriver or a punch with a hammer too.

Re: Knock out the knockouts?
Leave the KOs in & just use the keys for judging & get others for normal usage.
The tool was made by Borroughs, Kalamazoo, Mich. U.S.A. & is part number BT-6908. It is designed to work on the 1969 & newer GM/GM logo head keys. Pete- Top

Re: Knock out the knockouts?
If you go by the letter of the law in NCRS judging, removing the knockouts would have part of normal dealer prep and probably should be removed. In reality, no one really cares if they are in or out as long as they are present.Founder - Carolinas Chapter NCRS- Top
