    63-65 A/C Expansion Valve

Has anyone taken one of these apart and photographed all the internal parts? If yes, can you post them. I think I'm missing a part in mine.

    Thanks

The expansion valves are factory calibrated for the correct superheat. Once disassembled that setting is very difficult to re-calibrate. Either way, there are no parts of the valve that can be missing except for the screen at the inlet. Unless of course someone already took it apart.

The 63 Expansion Valve has an orifice door, 3 metal pins and a small bolt with a center hole that allows the plunger to travel when the refrigerant in the capsule either expands or contracts. I can easily remove the door, pins and the small bolt. What I do not see is the plunger that opens the orifice door to allow freon to flow when the sending unit heats as a result of higher freon temps exiting the evaporator.

The schematics show a plunger, I'm just looking to see an actual picture of one.

I did some more testing and research today. Looks as if all the parts are there. When I run it under hot water the orifice opens and at room temperature it closes. It is suppose to open at room temperature and close when real cold. Either some of the refrigerant is lost or it's gummed up inside. I'm soaking it in Simple Green. I'll let you know what happens.

No help with the soaking, guess it's DOA and will make a nice conversation piece. Best I can tell no one restores expansion valves.
