Guys...I have both the original washer pump and a replacement I purchased from a Chevrolet dealer in 1976 after the original stopped functioning. I started refurbishing the original to install it when I noticed reproduction units are available from Paragon, Zip and probably others. I compared their catalog photos with my units and can't discern a difference. Both of the plastic piston housings I have are mildly discolored (yellowish) and the piston cylinders have minor cracks where the screws holding the plastic components connect. I'd prefer to use the original pump but it will have to be professionally rebuilt so I'm considering installing a reproduction unit. I'm caught between originality and the practicality of a new unit as it relates to functionality and judging points. I'm looking for guidance from Forum members. Thanks...Clark

One thing I can tell you is that the originals were very slightly yellowish when new. The reproductions are usually absolutely white. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 5 Port Washer Pump Reproduction Judging
Hi Clark,
I think using the ORIGINAL part is (almost) always NICE!
A few years ago there was an article in the RESTORER written by Bob Cook about rebuilding the 5 port and 3 port washer pumps.
I believe it lists a source for the parts needed.
If you don't have access to that article I'd be glad send it to you if you'd like. You can check it out and see if it's something you'd like to put some effort in to.

Re: 5 Port Washer Pump Reproduction Judging
Thanks Alan. I'd like to review the article you referenced before deciding on how to proceed. It appears I will have to replace the plastic piston housing due to cracks where the four screws attach. The five port and intermediate plastic pieces are OK but have yellowed beyond what Joe indicated was original and I doubt will match a new piston housing. The rubber valves and the seal are whole and surprisingly still flexible. If these parts are available, I'll pursue a rebuild. As always, thanks for your assistance...Clark- Top
