    Need help from Good Wrench

Hi. Posting this here because I know a lot of smart wrenches visit here. Not a corvette, but someone here will give me the answer I need, I am sure.

I need to remove the pinion nut from my austin healey rear end...I cannot easily figure out how to restrain the ring gear so I can break the nut loose.

    Any advice appreciated.

Use Bill's impact wrench and use a piece of bar or angle stock (with a rag around it) in the ring gear teeth and against the housing to hold the ring gear locked.

Bill has your answer. Maybe in addition to the impact wrench, put a couple bolts through the pinion flange and use a pry bar or large screw driver to hold steady. Better yet, fashion a handle to bolt to the pinion flange. Trying to hold the ring gear will stress it and the pinion needlessly. Chip.

Gary, also take a center punch and mark the end of pinion gear and the pinion nut so it can be placed back in the same position.

Thanks guys...I had tried my impact, unsuccessfully. I was just not persistent enough. I turned up the air pressure to 150psi and got the job done!!

Don't know why I have a weakness for sorry British engineering, but I do and now I am restoring a 62 Austin Healey MkII tri carb.
