Hello, I am restoring a 63 SWC and when I took the rims of the car the inside was really rusted. I had the tires dismounted and the rims sandblasted. I was going to repaint them gloss black which I thought was correct. However, if I am reading the NCRS technical guide correctly it says that only the face is painted. Does that mean the back of the rims weren't painted? If they weren't painted in the back should I put a clear coat on them to stop them from rusting again? Thanks for all of the guidance you guys have provided! Dan

Re: 1963 wheel color question
Dan, after you have the wheels media blasted clean any residual media off the wheels. Then spray them all over with a good metal primer. When the primer has set spray them all over with semi-gloss or semi-flat. Krylon 1613 or John Deere Blits Black. If you car had whitewall tires then the outside is sprayed gloss black and you will get some over-spray on the inside. If you car does not have whitewall tires then the outside is body color, again there will be over-spray on the inside. This is the way the plant did it except I added the primer to process.
Good Luck!
