    Re: Cost benefit analysis

I appreciate all the comments, but in the end I just have to have those original wheels. I know I'm nuts but only 720 cars came with them and I don't think they will go down in price.

I don't think that you are nuts at all, you are doing what makes you happy.

You're not nuts...there is real and there's everything else. That's what a wise old sage from the swamps of Florida told me and I believe him.

          Kramden,

I had an original 63 Firestone blackwall split down the tread... from holding a car up 30 years.

At some point guys will realize its about keeping a car original and not a point per dollar cost basis.

I'm in the same situation with a very well documented 67 that had N89 wheels but lost them. There are no original wheels in front of me as a temptation, but I think I would prefer to spend the money on the restoration rather than on really expensive wheels. However, I would like to use the most accurate repro available. What current repro is the best and how do they differ from the originals?

In the end, I fully support what the owner wants.

I do believe America's Finest Corvettes puts out a far superior product. Last I heard, they were losing very few points. Hal and the guys at America's Finest really put forth the effort to offer fine products.

Hope the bus that you drive has better tars than those you mention above

still needs some original air in the tires.

if you have a good woodworker guy they could make you the screwdriver for show purpose only.

After much thought I cannot justify spending 18K+ just to say I have a set of real bolt on wheels. I would love to have them but I am going to pass.

IrwinScrewdrivers021.jpgIrwinScrewdrivers001.jpgDSCN4186.jpgDSCN4186.jpgOver the years I have found Irwin screwdrivers in antique stores. The ones I have found have black handles and are 1/2 inch to long. I have had decals made to put on the handle, the original screwdriver handles were embossed. I then have shortened it to make it the right length. So these screwdrivers I have are original Irwin screw drivers that I have restored to look like the ones used by Chevrolet in 1967.
