GM #3916139 was a Sweitzer-manufactured fan clutch. Consequently, it used a rectangular "bi-metallic" thermostat. Sweitzer clutches were also distinguished by the fact that the cooling fins on the rear of the clutch were "straight" rather than "curved" like Eaton clutches. It was discontinued from SERVICE in January, 1974 and replaced by the GM #3916141, an Eaton-manufactured clutch that was available from GM until fairly recently.

Your chances of finding an NOS example of the 3916139 with a 1970 date are about the same as the people in hell getting ice water. I know of no reproduction of any Sweitzer-style fan clutch. You might find a used example on eBay or elsewhere and could then have it rebuilt.

They come up on ebay. There was a May 70 recently. Maybe sold for $375.00 and it needed rebuilding.

There is a NOS 3916139 Schwitzer type "CJ" fan clutch currently on Ebay for big $, not mine (see link below). The Eaton company also supplied Chevrolet with a "CJ" fan clutch starting with 1967 models. There are photos of Eaton "CJ" fan clutches in other threads.

The 1970 AIM also lists GM # 3916140 and GM # 5329100 as optional fan clutches. I believe that GM # 5329100 might have been made by Delco Products.

There is an original 70 sb fan clutch on ebay with a 5 5 70 SC date right now for $400.00

Funny coincidence is that my 2 nd week June 1970 Build date L46 original fan clutch is dated 5 5 70 SC.

Guess we know they were busy that day.

It used to be that the only rebuilder of these was Fred Oliva. However, I think there are now 1 or 2 others in addition to Fred. A search of the archives should turn up the others.

Can you post the ebay link or the Title as it appears on ebay. My search of 3916139 doesn't pull it up.

                    Hi Mike,
                    Hope you're well!
Another fan clutch rebuilder who advertises in the DRIVELINE is pampered corvettes. Google
                    Quite an interesting site!
                    Good Luck.

Contact Zip or LI Corvette if you need a new reproduction. Lot better pricing than eBay.

This came up awhile back and I said at that time that Americas Finest Corvettes, (driveline advertiser), www.corvetteusa.com repros them. I ordered one for my big block but haven't gotten it yet due to it being back-ordered. I cannot at this time attest to its performance vs an original and it will be awhile before I can since the car is undergoing restoration.

If you need one today, I would contact Zip or LI Corvette. They're using a different vendor & have stock.

Ken, probably should have done that since I live about 20 miles from ZIP and know the people well. As it turns out I am not in any rush for the fan clutch and since I was ordering other items from Americas Finest I went ahead and ordered the fan clutch at the same time.
