Re: Use of Battery Tender
Patrick I opened the restoration battery case by gently prying around the lip at the top of the battery case. There is an indentation there where the top and bottom are fitted and glued together. You have to be careful not to crack the case. Once I got it open the internal battery is held in place by some type of glue that appears to have been poured in around the base. A chisel and hammer cracked the glue apart and I was able to remove the internal battery. Bob- Top

Re: Use of Battery Tender
My ChevyII is a Super Sport with the 327-350HP L-79. I have owned the car a little over 30 years. Has the original born with drivetrain with M21 4 speed 3:73 posi Etc. Is red with black guts. Bought it in 1984 and had it restored in 87-88. For the last 25 years it has been nothing more than a show car. Late this summer I finally took it out to few local cruiseins and had a ball. Since I am not going to live forever I figured I might as well drive it a little, plus it made my 17 year old grandsons day. LOL. He's a car nut and loves these old cars, especially the Corvettes. One of these days he will inherit the herd so therefore he has a vested interest.

Re: Use of Battery Tender
Michael,
Sorry to hear that. Those little suckers will run,LOL. That little ChevyII had a decided weight advantage of probably 1000 lbs or more. My car weighs right at 2950 lbs. Coincidentally I have been looking for a 63-64 Plymouth or Dodge 426 Max Wedge for the last year or so and just cannot find one that is the real deal. Lotta clones out there though. Found one in Hemmings 6 months or so ago that was a known car but i waited to long to contact the guy and I missed it. BTW, enjoy reading your posts here on the TDB.

Re: Use of Battery Tender
I think GM brought the Nova name out in 66 or maybe 65. Strangely enough my 66 SS, even though it was called a ChevyII Nova in the sales literature, does not have the word Nova anywhere on the car. It has Super Sport script on the rear quarters, a ChevyII badge on the grill, and ChevyII on the deck lid chrome moulding. On the other hand I also have a 68 original/unrestored Nova SS that has Nova script on the quarters and also ChevyII badges on the front of hood and on the deck lid. Maybe GM was struggleing as to what to call this car back in the day.

Re: Use of Battery Tender
I have had a Restoration battery for three years with the knife cut-off. I cut off the battery after every drive. If it sits for awhile I need to crank about 3-4 quick times and it starts. A BatteryMinder Plus came with the battery from them. I have never used it.- Top

Re: Use of Battery Tender
About 10 years ago I purchased a new delco sealed battery for my 63. I disconnect it after each use and it still cranks like new. It sits for 5 month over the winter in my garage where it gets from 20 to 30 degrees.
I use the battery minder on my C6, else the computer looses its memory.

Re: Use of Battery Tender
Personally, have NEVER used any kind of tender on any vehicle I have owned. In fact, hadn't driven the 1963 since August, but she fired right up after three cranks on Sunday with the 4-year old restoration battery. Had real nice drive to Oxford, PA for brunch and then back home - roughly 150 mile round tripRick Aleshire
