    Car Capsule for 77

I have a small garage so I was wondering if anyone has used the 16' long Car Capsule for a C3 (specifically a 1977). The 18' which is recommended size for the C3 is a bit too much for my garage. 16' would work rights.

    Thanks.

I use a Car Jacket, and then you don't have to worry about blowing it up or how much space it takes.

      Hi Michael,
      I think it'll be a 'stretch' getting 15'-4" in a 16' capsule.
This is an 18'. There appears to be lots of room here, but with the body on I've never felt as though there's any extra space
      ???
      Regards,

        Hi Alan
Your picture is pretty much exactly why I need the 16'. I have another project starting in the other garage bay and an 18' will leave me only 1' at front and back which is not sufficient as there is a door at back to get through and a tool chest to get past. Your photo suggests it will fit bit tight. Wish I had this at your stage because one winter I opened the garage and moisture instantly beaded on the newly installed calipers (oy).

Just checked on their web site and they have some new guidance:

        "
Simply measure your car from bumper to bumper and from outside of tire to outside of opposite tire.
So in theory should work. Would be nice to know someone has already done so. I'll check if they have any C3's in a 16' bubble.

        Thanks for the photo.

These type of car capsules do nothing to reduce humidity if that's your goal.

            Hi Michael

It does not reduce humidity but the air exchange and movement prevent condensation from forming (that's how it should work).
But the other significant mission is to physically protect the vehicle when work is happening in the other bay (like if someone throws a sledgehammer across the garage in frustration).
Am I misunderstanding something about the effectiveness of condensation control ???

            Cheers.

In the case you quoted above with condensation forming on calipers- this would be caused by warm, humid air entering a cold garage. This is pretty much the same process of taking a cold beer out of the fridge in the summer. Blowing ambient air on the calipers (or beer can) will not avoid condensation. In this case, the air exchanger fan in the car bubble is making things worse, not better. You'd be better off with a hermetically sealed capsule in this case or even better, keeping your storage space heated to at least above the dew point.

well you are correct about the scenario. Let me rethink this. The garage is now dehumidified but not heated. One possibility is a bunch of huge desiccant packs in the bubble since opening the garage door in those conditions in winter will happen occasionally. I have a fan blowing at the undercarriage all the time now in the garage and it helps.

                Cheers.

They will soon become saturated with moisture introduced by the blower.

Buy a window unit with both AC and heat functions. A 25,000 BTU Frigidaire unit goes for about $800. Keep temp above dew point as Michael recommends. Has worked well for me. For bigger bucks you can buy a Mitsubishi energy efficient ductless unit but window units in my 2 insulated garages have worked well for me.

I run fans as well for the same reason. With the Car Jacket I have never seen condensation on the car or any rust - at all - when stored. I did have surface rust and condensation when the car was "left alone" in a garage. Just my observations. Oh, and they sell large dessicant canisters you can place inside the Car Jacket, too.

ok, so I'm not feeling the love for the product. Car Capsule did get back to me about sizing and the 16' would fit but they are adamant that the air flow volume is sufficient to prevent condensation. I can't find anywhere here or elsewhere where there is proof that the scenario of most concern would not actually make things worse, not better. To be effective you would want the airflow to be dehumidified if you get a warm/humid blast of air.

Their new showcase product is interesting. I was actually considering using ABS drain pipe to make this very type of frame. It would allow for drive in and out capability with no setup since I'm already on a vinyl floor.

                            Cheers.
