    Radio Repair

Hi Folks. Does anyone know who works on C3 radios besides Jerry Rudbeck? I know Jerry only works on '72 and earlier. I have a 1975 radio that needs some help. Appreciate any suggestions. If anyone has a good working radio from 1970 - 1972, I would be interested. THANKS

I can pass along my experience with this. Going over my 72 8 years ago I figured I would upgrade the radio, after all 30 years later we should have better electronics, right? So I spent the $400 for the board upgrade and sent the radio to a guy that moved from MD to FL and was in the radio business with a good rep. Well I got it back, the lens was covered with crazy glue and the radio didn't work. I sent it back, they replaced the lens they wrecked and told me the radio worked fine. I installed it and it worked 3 weeks and went out again. I shipped it back again and again was told it was fine. The next time I installed it worked another month or so and cut out again. I just drove the car without a radio for a few years at that point, I didn't drive it much anyway. So about 6 months ago I was ready to pull it and ship it to Jerry or Mike since they both know about this common upgrade. I drove the car and tried the radio and bam it worked great, telling me the board isn't the problem. Well I played with it a little and the problem is in the volume pot, which was a well know problem back 40 years ago. So I left it in for now until I can see if the pot is still available. So I guess my point of all this is use one of those guys, they know what they're doing. If I was to do it over I would have kept the radio complete and just had them go over it. Years ago my 69 radio had the same problem, back then there were local radio repair shops around and the guy fixed the radio for $10. It worked up until the day I pulled the car off the road to do a body off. I was looking for Mike at Carlisle but he wasn't there this year.

Beware of Mike Hagen. I and several friends have had problems. Ask Jerry who to use. He (Jerry) is a gem!
