'72 Coupe AC Compressor Dangling O-Ring

    Folks:

During current body off restoration of my 1972 coupe (350 Auto), I found an O-ring dangling from one of the end housing anchor bolts - See picture below. Was this put there at the factory for some reason or more likely by some AC service technician at a later date? Just wanted to know if it is supposed to be there.

    Thanks,

Roger you have some unique features to your 1972 Corvette. Another "That'sd a new one on me" item. Congratul;ations. At least you will know where to fins that O-ring.

      Roger,
That's a case O-ring. There are 2 for that compressor. Hopefully the one that is supposed to seal the backplate is where it's supposed to be. You would know that as the compressor would leak, leak, leak.
My guess is that it was left there before the backplate was installed. No logical reason to store one there.

Since there does not seem to be any relation between the dangling O-ring and original factory build, then I will get rid of it. Thanks for your input.
