67 427 Drive shaft U joint bolt or retainer cap to diffi flange?

My 67' 427 with posi trac has u bolts connecting the drive shaft to the flange on the differential. The 1/2 shafts have the u joint cap with the bolt/lock washer attaching to the threaded flange on the diffi. I don't believe the diffi had been tampered with nor the flange that connects to the drive shaft. Is it possible it rolled of the assembly line this way? From what I read it appears that if you have a BB with posi trac the drive shaft to diffi should be the u joint cap with bolts and lock washers compared to a u bolt. any thoughts?

Midyear big block differential has caps/bolts on the half shaft area only, NOT the drive shaft. All midyear driveshafts, big or small block, used the same universal joints and U-bolts. To verify if you have an actual midyear big block diff (the side yolks can easily be changed) check the stamped code on the diff, codes will identify if for SB or BB

      Dave------

ALL 1963-70 Corvettes with Powerglide or manual transmission used u-bolts to retain the driveshaft u-joints to the flanges (either differential or transmission yoke). 1968-70 with THM-400 used straps with hex bolts. Most1971-82 regardless of transmission also used straps with hex bolts.
