I have an early (Vin 5691, body build 12-9-66) 1967 coupe. It has a telescoping steering column, but the tank sticker which shows that option is lined out in pencil. I have read several previous threads and I am not quite sure what I have. Should that have been cancelled on the car or was it factory installed with a new design? Thanks

Sounds like the tele column wasn't available at the time the order was manually edited for production, but it became available before the car left the plant.- Top

Re: 1967 N36 telescoping steering column question
John, thanks that make sense. I have two other questions that I posted in another thread that no one responded to. Maybe you can shed some light. The date received is 7-19-66, the expected production is 9-30-66, and the actual build date is 12-9-66. Quite a time period. I have been told because the car is highly optioned and parts may not have been available. The second item is the engine iis listed as ECL L71, but the description says 425 HP V8 Turbojet. Is this a typo?- Top

Re: 1967 N36 telescoping steering column question
Robert, I had a '67 in the 800 range and the tele column option was also crossed out. My car did not have it. It could be that your car was kept around to include all of the required options. That may explain the lag period of two months or so. I've looked at lots of '67 tank stickers and have not seen the L71 option listed as 425 horse. I'm sure others with early L71 cars can provide some information from their documents.- Top

Re: 1967 N36 telescoping steering column question
There was a GM strike in October 1966, where essentially no Corvettes were built in that month. I am sure the strike also significantly disrupted operations and also parts suppliers. Probably took a few weeks in November to get car production going again like before, and parts for the highly optioned cars may not have been available in inventory. By late November (1966), things were probably back to normal/routine.

It is, but just since June or so, I was wondering if it had been validated before that.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top
