66 Lower ball joint nut and washer

Does anyone have a picture of an original nut and washer that holds the lower ball joint to the lower control arm? Sincerely Brian

They appeared exactly as shown below EXCEPT they were both of plain, natural steel finish.

Joe - Besides myself you are one of the only other person besides some of my 68 - 72 judging colleagues that would agree that the hardware was natural. Although, on some Bowtie and Survivor cars I have seen the lock washer black.

In that case, the factory used a lockwasher that was other than the one specified.

Joe - more than likely they may have, but again, I have seen mostly black.

Another possibility I should have mentioned: plain, natural steel does not necessarily mean "shiny metal". It means just natural, unfinished steel, as fabricated. This can mean all sorts of shades of brown or gray.

The thing that surprises me is that whether the washers were natural or phosphate-finished anyone would ever see original ones that were anything but "rust", especially considering their location on the chassis of the car with maximum exposure to the elements.

I agree with you to some extent, but the exception being extremely very low milage cars that were stored in a climate controlled enviroment. Still there are some evidence of the original finish on some portions on their surface some of the time.
