In using radial tires on my 66 midyear, is it wise to use the slotted shim or the 2 hole shim for alignment?

Re: slotted shims vs 2 hole shims
...doesn't make any difference what type of shims are used as long as toe is reasonably correct, which is about 1/32" per side toe-in for radial tires. It's very important to have nearly equal toe on each side. Otherwise the car will have different dynamic response right and left or "crab" if the difference is severe.
Shim type is based on either judging criteria or convenience. The slotted type are much easier to change, but are known to fall out, which is mostly due to improper installation. The last installed shim should be the largest and require light tapping with a hammer to install. Then the trailing arm nut should be torqued to spec with the suspension at normal ride height, and if the trailing arm bushing was properly installed the shims won't fall out.
