    1967 Corvette Shriner car unearthed

Just acquired one of the 13 Shriner 1967 Corvettes. From what I understand this is the 5th one to surface. #2486. Got it from the owner of the car since 1968. So don't give up, there are still some good finds out there. A little rough, but still real original.

      Nice acquisition Jeremy!
I was just wondering, were the other '67 Shriner cars built in sequence with yours?
For example, #2,485, 2,487, 2,488 etc. or were/are their serial numbers very close to yours?

I've been trying to determine for some time if this was the case with the 1963 Shriner lot but have
yet to identify any of them thus far.

White/blue? I remember helping document the first purple/red 62 to be found back in about 1982. In 1984 it was at Copper Mountain, and a passerby saw it and was the original owner of one of the 62's. Nice find, Jeremy! Keep us posted with pics as it gets cleaner. I played high school basketball against Wahoo, NB,, and knew nothing about those cars until 18 years later. I remember going by the Anderson dealership way back when. Where did you find the car? How long have you been tracking it?

Yes, tank sticker is still on tank and looks to be in good shape. I am going to drop tank in the next day or so. Yes, white on blue. This is one of the few automatics of the 13, possibly one of two. The cars where from VIN 2196 to 2525, not in order and according to the date, that was when there was a strike at the plant. Strike was from Oct 4-25th. Cars probably finished on the 26th. There are photos of the Shriners picking up the cars at the plant on Nov 11, 1966.

It looks like the delivery date is stamped on the VIN Tag...Ties in nicely to the story.

Reminds me of the big mistake made by someone who decided to "restore" 1967 VIN 2390 as an L88 convertible (white on red). Turns out it was originally one of the small block '67 Shriner cars, and G.L. Anderson had tons of dealer paperwork on all the '67 Shriner cars.

Google L88 Shriner 1967 Corvette; you'll be amazed.

I wonder if anybody ended up doing hard time for this fraud, and who were the buyers who lost big $$$.
                  Who has it now ?

Wayne I remember that quite well. I was the one who asked about it on the board It got quite entertaining after a while. I think the car went over seas. Also a friend of mine who post on the CF owns one.

I never was sure on the story of these cars, did the Omaha Shriners pay for these cars, or did some high level GM exec (a Shriner) give them to the Temple for publicity?

                              Bill,
check post #5--they are listed there. Reasonably wide range, but all in the first 1/4 of production.
