    1962 posi axle plug

I am finishing up the details on my axle.....personal thanks to Tom
Parsons for his help in rebuild and assembly......I have a couple of questions.....what is the factory finish on the plug, semi gloss black.....then what is the proper seal, copper or cork gasket? I prefer to use copper to get a good leakproof seal, you original owners..... Copper and black? Thank you for your help!

Here is a pic from my early 62. The AIM shows a gasket for the posi unit. I would guess the same for an open rear end. Can't find in the AIM.

John, am I right saying you have an early vin with drain plug correct? And non posi because vent pipe and donut around drain plug? Your yellow x was not on my posi, I had a wide white stripe on top.... I still don't know if the plug was painted and what was the washer made of?

Dino, yes,#00029 non-posi. Do you have an AIM? It just says gasket.

I do have the AIM, and it calls out the gasket......but I have no idea if it is copper or cork, the repo houses sell both....as you can see my posi unit housing pictured has a white paint stripe and wrong plug

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I THOUGHT the original gaskets for the filler plug were leather.
