    1969 Frame Shim Markings

    Hi All,

I am getting ready to put the slash marks on each body mount to indicate the number of shims on a '69. I have one mount with six shims. I know that white slashes were used, but somewhere I got the idea that a green slash indicated five shims. If so, I'd use one green slash and one white for six. Or is it just six white slashes?

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Bob,

I doubt color of a slash means one shim or more than one shim. Shim marks appear to have been done in different colors. White is mostly what is seen. My 67 has all green shim marks(originial)! I would think whether white or green, each slash is one shim. Maybe someone with a 69 can give you additional input.

My opinion is that the green and white was used sometime in the midyear era, but for 68-69 Corvettes white grease pencil marks were usually seen, but not to say that green could not have been used. Green grease pencil marks were commonly used thru the 70-72 years. Its my belief that 68-69 used white and 70-72 used green. By the way for those who care, the brand and supplier of grease pencils utilized for all midyears and thru the late shark era was Duramark. They were the supplier for all GM.

Bob, as a reference my 68 has white marks and although the image is not a body mount image, there were two shims where the marks are located.
Each mark represented a single shim, 3 marks=3shims etc.

The common color for the shim count were white. At about mid 69 production the markings went from Roman Numeral to Arabic. We do not know the exact point but if you car is right at mid production ether configuration would be fine.
