    Corvette Distributor Rebuilding or Recurving

Need a recommendation for a place to send my '62 Corvette distributor. I know about T.I Specialty. I'm looking for somebody less expensive. It probably doesn't need rebuilding. It probably only needs to be put on a Sun machine and recurved, or have the existing curve determined.

    You might try Bill Clupper.

Unless you are building a race engine where every hp counts you could do it yourself, not that difficult. There was a post on this board on how it's done.

I agree. There are few projects I'd not undertake on the vintage distributors such as maybe the shaft bushing replacement, and I haven't had to do even that in my 50+ years of working with them. I am a little handicapped without access to a distributor machine that I had up north, but my notes help a lot.

Yes, I realize I can put the car out of commission while I swap distributors; set the initial timing; and, then screw around with springs and weights and a timing light. Instead I was hoping to find somebody with a Sun machine who would set it on their machine. There must be somebody in the hobby who does this.

I feel your pain. I have a rebuilt distributor ready to install (to replace an aftermarket unit on my car) that I'd like to have put on a Sun machine just to save me some time and trouble. I just want to know how close I am as a reality check at a minimum...and maybe ideally get it dialed in before I install it.

I've found a few places that are really proud of their services and will charge you several hundred dollars for the honor. I didn't even pay that much for the distributor and all the rebuilding parts combined!!! I've even considered buying my own Sun machine since it would be cheaper than what some charge. It's frustrating since there were days not that long ago where every decent speed shop in town had a Sun machine and would throw your distributor on the machine for free if you were a good paying customer, or at most charge you a modest amount if full service and parts swapping was performed. Now I'm starting to sound like a grumpy old man so I'll shut up.

Here's a place in Anaheim, CA that came up via an Internet search. http://www.ignitionengineering.com/about-us.html
