C 2 Spare Tire lock bolt bracket orientation

I'm doing some rear clean up on my 65. Lowered the spare tire and decided to remove and refinish the bolt/lock assembly. the only thing I missed on disassembly was the orientation of the bolt bracket that attaches to the inside of the tub. It's slanted to either mount sloping forward or backward. Which is it??? Also note that the bracket in question had some residual black paint on it. Gloss or Semi Gloss? Thanks for any help.

Check your AIM, UPC10 A3. It shows the angle there. I don't think thee would be any paint on it......

found it; thanks. If not painted then what?? there was no evidence of this piece being plated and I wouldn't think that a bare steel part would have been used there.

        Blake,

I have attached a picture of an un-restored, 29,xxx mile, Top Flight/Duntov awarded 1965 Corvette showing the spare tire carrier lid bolt which screws into the bracket. It looks to be silver cad or zinc plated. I plated the bracket, and all associated bolts in silver zinc plating. I went through Chapter to National judging this year with no negative comments on originality. Hope this helps.

The bracket should be painted semi gloss black. Never seen one plated.

thanks Russ, I looked online at a few of the vendors. Seems that the repros are black as you have stated. I believe mine to be original; just doesn't have much paint left! Reguards, Blake
