Yeah, Rob, we can't carbon date nitrogen, so some sleaze-bucket might just pump in new stuff. The fake N2 will be extremely difficult to deal with... Luckily, I have a huge storage tank full of 2014 N2, so I'll be able to sell it to you for a more and more "reasonable" price as the years go by...

Joe: Did read it; but statement did not indicate if Nitrogen was pure or if it came from GM or Dealer installed. Larry

Guys, Went thru my paperwork for the new 2014, (Window Sticker, Sales Brochure) & I was wrong about the Nitrogen filled tires, SORRY, must have been confusion from the bombardment of "Weekly Leaks" from GM as they promoted the NEW C7! Now I have to go & put a coat of WAX on the 2014 after finding that isn't "Painted with special clear coat that doesn't need Waxed ever"! I understand the NEW 2015 will have "Touch Screens" that will not get finger prints on them! Now that is will be a real advance! Barry

Larry, I thought I'd revisit the original question, 'cause you really never got an appropriate answer. Since GM is not putting anything but air in your Silverado tires, (and it wouldn't matter if they did) I'd be concerned about possibly owning a truck that apparently violates the laws of chemistry. This would not be good.

So, if your Silverado tire pressure didn't change appreciably when it got cold, the only possibility is that Bubba, that dastardly night-stalker-type-ex-pump-jockey, is sneaking into your garage and topping off your pressure while you sleep. Next he'll be checking the oil and washing the windshield. He may do a brake job. It could get ugly real fast. I'd look for really greasy paw prints on your air compressor and then change the locks on your garage doors...

Or it could be that the dealer topped off the pressure on one of the required sixteen re-call visits...

Glad to be of questionable help.....

Michael: Thanks for the "thoughtfull" response. Will certainly keep an eye on the air pressure and Bubba; if I see him maybe I can talk him into cutting my grass also. ha ha BTW; have not takin my Silverado once to the dealer; no recall on this particular one.(At least that's what they tell me when VIN is given to GM) Larry

Yours may be the only one they missed. Seriously, though, the new Silverados are pretty awesome. Great mileage and I can't quite believe how quiet they are...

Re: Does GM use Nitrogen or ? in their new Corvettes and other new vehicles tires?

We used nitrogen in racing tires and actually pulled a slight vacuum before inflating .The heavy turning load on the right side tires would change the height and handling of the car by the middle of the race. If you don't pull a vacuum you will still have atmospheric pressure in tire and the moisture in that air. When at a Chevy dealer down south I saw they were pushing nitrogen in everything that rolled for an additional $ 80. when I asked if they evacuated the tire first they looked at me as if I had two heads.

If they wanted $80 for nitrogen I would look at them like they had 2 heads -- over my shoulder as I left.

For $80, tell them to use hydrogen. Your car will be much lighter and have an explosive take off....
