    1996 parking brake

When my 1996 was less than a year old the parking brake applicator was replaced under warranty because it would not apply the parking brake. I thought a lot of my new LT4 and did not want the Chevy technicians driving my LT4 or working on it, so I changed out the parking brake applicator in the Chevy's parking lot and the service manager inspected it.
Later the applicator was not applying the application of raising the handle. Fixed it today. The locking application piece was observed to be in slow motion in it's movement. Sprayed some lubricant on the pivot connection and it began to move freely, now catches application of parking brake 100%.
Removing/installing the two screws retaining the parking brake cover was the most difficult encounter for me. Access to the two screws could be one's challenge.

Jim, accessing those two screws I think could be easier if you remove the seat cushion or better yet, the entire seat from the track. Just four bolts for the entire seat. The cushion is just a matter of releasing the clip.

Ed no problem in removing the bottom seat cushion, did remove it again this time. My first time was when my 1996 was not even a year old when GM paid for the new parking brake. I removed the original and installed the new one. My 96 has the sport seats and power seats with the air powered bolster function, it was not necessary to remove the seat. I loosened the two screws with the a 90 degree bent Phillips screwdriver tool and was able to position a straight screwdriver to finish removing the screws with bottom seat cushion removed. I also used a 90 degree bent Phillips screwdriver tool to tighten the two screws after I partially installing them with a straight screwdriver.
