    66-68 Fan Shroud/Radiator Saddle Bolt 454872 details

Thought it might be helpful to share my comparisons of the 66-68 top fan shroud bracket to radiator support bolt. This is also the bolt to hold the upper saddles on 66-68 427 cars with brass radiators. The original bolt is 5/16-18, 1/2" hex head grade 8 (Most common headmarking is RSC). Overall length including the head is 1-13/16". Measured from under the head to the end is 1-5/8" with a shoulder that measures 3/4" from under the head leaving a 7/8" threaded section. I have included some pictures of 2 originals next to the current reproduction. The reproduction being on the right in the pictures showing the headmarkings and it is on the bottom in the pictures showing the overall length. The repro bolt is 1/8" longer which should be very easy for judges to spot as these bolts show through each of their mounting brackets.tn_IMG_0807.JPGtn_IMG_0805.JPGtn_IMG_0806.JPG

      Hi guys,
You are mentioning the extra 1/8" in length the reproduction bolt has. That it will be easy for the judges to see. Maybe because it will stick out a bit more or something obvious like that.

On similar applications I have had to address, I put the bolt in my bench top mill and milled it to the correct length. The mill will make the correct shape at the end of the bolt very easily. But, if you want it to look exactly as the original does, you have to taper the end thread with a hand file.

      Just food for thought,

      Monte
