    Interesting Trim Tag

C1 & C2 Corvettes for Sale/Wanted - 1965 Corvette Convertible For Sale - 1965 Convertible, Rally Red/white leather, white soft top, numbers matching, 327/300hp. 4-speed. 58,000 miles, original AM/FM radio, Knock-off wheels, including spare on Michelin WSW tires. Paint, chrome and trim are all in excellent condition....

There is a red on white/black '65 convertible for sale on the Corvette Forum C1-2 cars for sale. If you scroll down and look carefully at the Trim Tag body #, the A of A O Smith appears to have been stamped over an S as in St Louis.

Would be interesting to know if there is any evidence of blue on blue on the body or interior.

        Re: Interesting Trim Tag

It is not unusual at all to see typos, overstrikes or missing characters on original trim tags, whether St. Louis and AO Smith bodied cars. The letter S is located right next to the letter A on a standard QUERTY keyboard. A likely scenario here is that the tag machine operator at the AOS plant accidentally hit the letter S instead of the A, realized his mistake, backspaced and overstruck the A on top of the S. He probably didn't give it a second thought and moved on to the next job.

Interesting theory but only if you can find AO Smith convertible body #s in and around that VIN that relate to this body #.

Loren - Agree that would certainly help. FWIW, the body build date of J13 (May 13th) corresponds pretty well for an AOS body car with a final assembly date of May 25th--as estimated by the Corvette birthday calendar. I used to own a '67 AOS convertible (sn 17402) that had a trim tag with no body build date at all! It was an unrestored low option 300 HP maroon car that I bought from the second owner. Pretty sure it hadn't been messed with. I've since heard of a several other AOS cars with the same omission.
