Hi all,
When I have items that are slightly pitted, I use a semi-gloss black so as to not bring out the imperfections. But when I have smooth stamped steel pieces, I use gloss black. I painted several such items and they look like NOS!
I used Rustoleum Gloss Protective Enamel. Having such good results, I bought probably a dozen more cans of what appeared to be an upgrade called Rustoleum High Performance Enamel, 15-Minute Fast Dry.
Unfortunately, the High Performance is the worst paint I have ever used. It almost never dries at all, much less in 15 minutes, but stays very tacky making it impossible to turn a piece over to spray the other side. And I'm painting at 70-degree temps and low humidity. It has fisheye on sandblasted pieces that have been wiped down with Acryliclean/Preps-all, orange peel and parts are even wrinkly like the old wrinkle paint used on electronics!
My procedures have not changed and the items have not changed. Only the paint. Has anyone else had this problem? Is Rustoleum having a recall on this paint?
Is the old Rustoleum Gloss Protective Enamel still available? Or has anyone had my previous good results with another brand?
Thanks,
Bob
