I finally dug mine out & my 70 year old memory is failing me. It is a 2 section antenna NOT a 3 section one as I stated before. The 2 grooves you are eluding to are at the near top of the upper section below a rectangular flat knob about a 1/2 inch. The other groove is about the same distance below the start of the lower section. The stem fits the standard base & has the round with 2 flats cap that screw on the threaded base. The 2 masts themselves are oval shape. Sorry for the confusion. Tip to tip 19 3/4 closed & 32 1/4 extended.

I have have had 4 70 vettes over the years and only 1 of them had non fixed antenna, it was original owner car I bought in late 70s I think, somewhere have pictures and copies of paperwork when I bought.

                    Re: 1970 telescoping antenna

Trying to keep this alive & I have a thought. My BB VIN # 7601 has a stereo radio & am wandering if that is why it has the 2 mast antenna because over a range of 1000 Corvettes but most have the fixed mast ones. Anyone have a reason that not all had the 2 mast over a certain time? THANKS KEN

                        Re: 1970 telescoping antenna

I now have 5 known 1970's with the 2 stage mast antenna. VIN #'S 6787, 7601, 7907, 8031, 8473. Anyone know of any others. I talked to 6787 owner who said he has looked for years to find another GM car/truck that these were installed on & can't find any. He thinks these may be test antennas. Any ideas or has anyone seen these on other GM vehicles?
