    1970 telescoping antenna

Dose anyone else have a 1970 Corvette VIN # around 7000 with a 3 section telescoping antenna? For years I have been telling people that my 70 one owner that had original paint had one on it when I bought it in 91. I just heard yesterday that NCRS now acknowledges that some were built with that mast. I still have the mast but put the NCRS CORRECT on. Also my 454 has the manifolds with the AIR plugs. My vin is 7601. THANKS KEN

My July built original owner 1970 Corvette came with a solid length radio antenna that is still in use.

Thanks Jim but please reread my post they were only on VIN #'s 7400 to 7800. I am sure your July built car is a MUCH higher VIN #

        Re: 1970 telescoping antenna

I did reread your post. Why do you think there was a short period of installed antennas like your original? My 1968 has a solid length antenna. My 1964 had a telescoping antenna that was very tall when extended all the way. Wonder if the factory had a supply problem for Corvettes 7400-7800 in 1970?

          Kenneth, Kenneth, tsk, tsk

          Ken,

You know better than to change a car just to meet some sanctioning body's guidelines. I love NCRS as much as anyone but, let the car do the talking and let us do the listening. Stick to your guns, put the original mast back on, call Stan 'The Man' Falenski and start a dialogue.

I love details like this. It seperates the fly **** from the pepper:-))

Ken didn't tell you he tried to sell me on that collapsible antenna back when I was Team Leader, and he lived in Indiana.

Yes I will. It works better for me since I just bought 2 lifts & don't have to unscrew my antenna. I still would like to hear from others that have that mast.

Here we go! Two data points on the march to validate Ken's antenna theory.

Ken I feel a serious moment coming on:
Why don't you take on a survey of 1970-1972 Corvettes that owners believe were originally equipped with an adjustable antenna? Separating the original antenna's from the want'o be ones will be your chance to separate the pepper from the fly ****.

I'll feed you some 1970's from my own searching:

                    #8473

Eric Mortimer will be happy to put a free add in The Driveline in the INFORMATION WANTED section. If you find some patterns I am sure Stan Falinsky would be only too happy to receive your data. Drop Scott Lindee an email and see if he has anything in the LT-1 survey about adjustable antennae. He might have recorded some owner's claims.

Sounds like a plan. I have posted on the CF to see if any one else has one. Don't know if I should try to post a picture of mine as not to muddy the waters. I believe most people changed them unless the Corvette had original paint or was bought new by them. I assume most were changed out when the Corvette was re painted so after that the trail will be cold as Corvettes change hands.. Posting in the Driveline is a good idea. Thinking I will be looking for needles in a hay stack but don't have much else to do since I'm retired.

At both those s/ns above I have the note "2 grooves." Since I haven't seen one of these antennas in a while I am not sure what that means, but maybe it means something to you.
