    69 Brake Bleeding

There seems to be some confusion as to which wheel to bleed first. I have looked this up in about 4 different service manuals and all seem to have a different opinion. Has anyone else noticed this?

Tom, I have done many C2/C3 corvettes and I can tell you I do it by myself, It take a little extra time as a pressure bleeder is the fastest way. What I do is not by the service manual, Start by bench bleeding the master cylinder if you replaced,( should be bled anyway makes the process go easier) then start pumping the pedal by hand up and down about 15/20 times, then remove the cover on master and crack the bleeder L/F caliper, its the closest to master and the easiest to gravity bleed. just lay the cover back on each time you pump the brake pedal,Once the fluid starts to come out watch the bleeder watch with a drop light once the bubbles disappear close the bleeder, pump pedal by hand once more, and watch again. once the bubbles stop coming, go to the right front, repeating these steps each time. When you head to the rear calipers start with opening the inner bleeder first, then the outer, once the pedal is pumped a few times each you should start feeling a pedal, All the steps can be repeated to you get the pedal to the top. don't let the master cylinder run dry.

No one wants to believe it, but the order the corners are bled makes absolutely no difference until you get to those Corvettes with anti-lock brakes. That's my two cents and I am sticking to it.

for me - the hardest thing was getting fluid to the PASS rear caliper when the system 100% dry. So I always started bleeding from there.
inside, then outside - bottom to top. I have used a vacuum pump in the rear to pull fluid out for a good start.

then DVR rear, PASS front and DVR front.

As mentioned above - be sure to bench bleed the master 1st.

I always do gravity bleeding. It takes LOTS longer but 99% of the times will get you a rock hard pedal.
Just take your time and it will work nicely.

        my 2 cents.. :-)

Pressure bleeder is hands down the best, if not bleed master cylinder on car by cracking the lines loose and slowly pushing the brake pedal down, tighten all lines at mc and let pedal back up repeat till all air is out then proceed to bleed the wheels (make sure you tightend all m/c lines before moving to bleeding the wheels) back in my flat rate tech days I would witness the old fashion way usually one guy pumping making a milkshake out of the fluid and the other guy trying to bleed all that airated air out of the system, don't fight it, it's basic tech school physics hgh pressure seeks low pressure crack open all the bleeders at the wheels, keep the master cylinder filled with car level and let atomospheric pressure push all that fluid/air out of the opened bleed valve/s, keep checking the reservoir fill as needed.
