    C1 Tops water proof ?

Just saw my first demonstration by Corvette mike of lowering and putting up a C1 Convertable top. The car in the demonstration was a 58 so I asume all 56-62 are similar. My question is did the little piece of weatherstripping on the front and rear of the top held by a clamp in front and back really keep the water out or did most all of them leak? I speaking about new tops not old worn out ones.

I have a Patent Application in for a 1956 to 1962 Corvette INTERIOR Windshield Wiper System.......

Kidding aside, my '59 ST header and door post top corners, as well as the door sill gutters leak, and will continue to leak no matter what I've done to prevent it, in 28 years of ownership.

People ask me if the top leaks, and I always say....."Of Course!......It was a design FEATURE".

Both my '57 and my '61 tops leak mainly by the windshield header seals. If I get caught in a rainstorm at a car show where the car is stationary, they don't leak too bad. If I am driving in a rainstorm, I had better have towels handy for my wife to sop up the water.

I have heard of guys just putting masking tape over the header seal on the outside if they are driving in a rainstorm.

        Are not these C1s wonderful?

The tops are waterproof, but the water comes in at the fastening points and the weatherstrip.
No way in the world to stop it.
If you want a laugh, go look at the water test in the AIM.

Is it correct to asume this problem was fixed on the C2 Convertable since the car was completely rebuilt?
