Doesn't Corvette Central have correct 63 hangers?

I installed correct 63 rear hangers long ago, but could never get them to hang right because of the brass ground plates.
They were too stiff to allow any flexing of the rubber strips which made them hard to adjust, and the worst part was that the plates transmitted the vibration to the chassis. I finally cut the plates off and replaced them with the woven type ground straps which worked fine.

I don't recall which vendor I got them from, or whether they were NOS or repros. This was back in the early 90's.

The front hanger assembly; however, works beautifully. It is rather a bit over designed and is probably why they simplified it in 64 to take some cost out. Many of the changes from 63 to 64 seem to have been done by the accountants, sorry to say, but at least they got it right with the rear hangers.

        FM,

Yes, Corvette Central does have 63 rear muffler hangers (pr) under part number 322176. They are exact reproductions and fit perfectly WITH a stock exhaust system. Variations by the several exhaust system manufacturers in business will have to be addressed before 63 rear hangers are used.

Also, keep in mind to make the 63 system complete, you will need the galvanized heat shields that go on aft of the mufflers inside of the rear panel. These present additional concerns for proper positioning of the exhaust tips - usually too far out in relation to the bumpers.

But again, as Joe relates to, a lot depends on the system you buy. Mine are all welded 2-1/2" aluminized (probably generic to fit most any 63 thru 82 chassis). I have had this set on since 1992 and they still look like new. I went through at least 3 sets of stock carbon steel since new, and this set will probably out last me (@ 75).
