    Can anyone decode this axle?

    See the attached pictures.

Looks to be OH116W9E, which doesn't fit the C2 or C3 format.

(Sorry, but these are the best pictures the guy could send me.)

    Thanks

    "OH" was 1978-79 3.55:1 or 1980 3.07:1

Yeah, I would agree (1979), but a heavy duty axle?? Note the caps for the half shafts instead of the straps. I don't think they were still being used in 78-79.

Those could easily have been changed. This unit has obviously been out of the car since it looks like someone painted it silver.

Agreed Joe. I did a search and it appears the later C3 (1978 and later) used a different format than the C2 and early C3 axles (which I didn't know), so I think what we have here is a 1979 3.55 posi axle (OH code), assembled at the Warren, MI plant on the116th day (April 26th) of 1979 and fitted with an Eaton posi unit. And someone has replaced the standard stub axles with heavy duty.

          Thanks
