    Factory painting

I have a 1972 Coupe that has 39,954 miles on it. It was a barn find one owner. I have a question about the factory paint. When they painted the car did they also paint the bolts and headlight can area. I've noticed the brackets and bolts are also the same color as the car. Some friends looked at it and think its had some paint work. Also is there any NCRS representatives that will travel to look at a car before it has work done on it?

    No. These items weren't painted.

Many (almost all) cars had paint repair done to them in St Louis before they went out the door, so you can find overspray in some unusual places. The key is, never say never.
There are some parts in the front that were present when the car was painted, but you have to know which ones, and your description is not specific enough. Pictures would help.

I would contact your local Chapter for someone versed in early C3s who might help you. Otherwise there are others who will (for a fee) look at a car for you.

            Re: Factory painting

Thanks for all the replies. My 72 had been in storage for about 18 years. The two rear rubber vent tubes that drain into the wheel well had rotted and allowed moisture to get into the interior of the car. Needless to say the carpet had some VERY bad mildew. There fore the carpet is having to be replaced. I'm presently working in Saudi Arabia and have left the car with Nu Vintage Corvettes in Alabama. The owner has had a hard time finding someone to come to the shop and look at the car so we can decide what to do in regards too making necessary repairs. I would like to keep the car as a SURVIVOR if at all possible. If anyone can help with finding a qualified NCRS professional that would take a look at the car I would really appreciate it. I would like the NCRS Representative to contact Nu Vintage Corvette and let them know that they would be willing to come look at the car. I know there's a cost associated with this and I've authorized Nu Vintage folks to work out the details. I'm looking forward to replies. Many thanks from the sandbox.

              Hi Clifford,
I suggest that you begin by contacting the Regional Director.
              Region IV:

              Mike Sams jmsams@windstream.net

North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Kentucky

He'll likely be able to get you pointed in the right direction to find someone in or near Alabama to look your car over.
              Good Luck!
              Regards,
              Alan

PS: I think it would be wise to have the people working on your car SAVE EVERYTHING that they take off NO MATTER WHAT IT'S CONDITION.
You could well want to restore those parts sometime in the future; and also, they are a source of priceless information as to just what the original parts on the car were.

I have to agree with Patrick on the paint touch ups at the factory, have seen many cars coming of the anchor motor freight trucks with overspray painted frames and overspray on windows and mouldings that were poorly taped. sometimes with poor color matches.
