WHERE'S THE RESTORATION ARTICLES??? In the 'RESTORER?'

Just received the 'Restorer', not ONE restoration article! When the magazine only comes out 4 times a year, that is disappointing. The 1964 owners stories were good though!

1973 LS-4 454 coupe owned 24 years (7 of those with a respectable front bumper)
1996 LT-4 Collector Edition coupe owned 13 months
Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA-currently on tap!

I agree Rich. I was also very disappointed. Not that the 64 stories weren't good, but I really look forward to the restoration articles. Usually there are two or three that I read and re-read over and over again. This one went in the recycle bin. Ed

In Vinnie defense, if we as a membership are not contributing restoration articles, then this is what we are going to have to get use too. So if you want to see restoration articles, get out in the shop, do the work, and write the articles. I am sure Vinnie would appreciate it as would other members. Just my 2 cents.

Re: WHERE'S THE RESTORATION ARTICLES??? In the 'RESTORER?'

        Greetings,
I am sometimes reluctant to throw in my two cents worth............... However, although many may object to this comment, I see very little to rave about in the current issue as the second half is devoted to page after page of those tiny little photos that almost require a magnifying glass to make out. I for one miss the old format w/o color photos and a wealth of restoration articles (ah, yes........the good old days). I hope I am allowed this criticism w/o p---ing off too many people. I suppose many people like to see their countenance shown in those tiny photos...............I'm just not one of them. Maybe its an ego thing........I don't know. Hell, if not enough people are submitting new info how about rerunning (reprinting) the best of the old articles?

        There, see...........that didn't hurt..........much!

If I had my Restorer I could comment but it has not made it to Glen Carbon ,Il yet . I agree I do not like the small photos . I would rather see pictures of cars or restorations .

What he said. As somebody that has every issue since Vol. 1 # 1 (yes, they're real) not every issue is going to be great. I've come to expect that the issue after the National is going to be primarily about that. As far as pictures of members go, these folks have put a lot of time, work, not to mention money in their cars I have no problem with them having their moment in the sun.

The Restorer needs more substantive restoration content. Event coverage seems to take over many issues, but that's content only salient to those who attended; and that's probably only 20% of the membership, if that. I have two restoration-type articles in the queue right now and they cannot find their way into print because of event coverage.

I needed a magnifying glass to look at the photos. I know we are all aging but the print in most of my favorite auto magazines seems to be shrinking. Articles were great but I could care less about the meets.

Re: WHERE'S THE RESTORATION ARTICLES??? In the 'RESTORER?'

Guys, As already pointed out by Gary, the restoration articles come from the membership, not Vinnie. As for the quality of the Restorer and Driveline we need only look at the number of "Golden Quill" awards Vinnie's work has produced since he took over. Not every issue will have content that is of interest to us all. And another thing, look at the age of our hobby and the wealth of info already published. There is only a finite amount of technical info about our cars. I think Mr. Gast may have a great idea about rerunning some of the older articles. I doubt many members have seen some of the early info published. As for the age old problem of getting the magazine into our hands at about the same time....ain't gonna happen, but like Bill, I wish there was a better way. Bill Wilhelm #1600

Timing is everything....or so it seems, at times. In this case, the critique is about something that's happened 3 times in print: an attempt at commemoration of NCRS. I would characterize the 1st as Volume 16, #1, a definitive gathering of part and casting #s put together by John Amgwert and Brian Futo, a once-and-for-all argument settler, later devolved into the best small booklet one ever had at a Swap Meet. New members wail that they can't complete their collection of Restorers because they can't find #16-1. Then they find out that it's going to take $150-200 IF they can find a seller. The other two are the 25th Anniversary and the last one, The 40th Anniversary issues. The kind of anniversaries that are pretty hard to ignore - and perhaps of more value to the newer members. NCRS wasn't always like it is in 2014. You had members financing printing of the Restorer because dues weren't due yet, etc. But the Restorer was/is the backbone of NCRS - there are folks out there that have NEVER been to an event, but you'll find a full collection of the magazine in their house. But not all would have won a Pulitzer Prize...........

I think there isn't enough C7 stuff in The Restorer. What, you don't like C7's?
