Original Color of my 59 Vette

Is there a way I can find out the original color of my 1959 Corvette?

Re: Original Color of my 59 Vette

Hi Tom. The color is identified by the grease pencil marking on the passenger bulkhead in the trunk area. Here are a couple of pictures from my current restoration. My original color on my 59 is turquoise as indicated by the "TURQ" grease pencil marking found as I was sodablasting the car. You might also be able to locate the original color inside the door after you remove the inspection plate behind the interior door panels. Also the floor can be another indicator as well as the fiberlass piece over your gas tank. All this being said if your car hadnt already been fully restored and these indicators previously removed. Hope this helps. Good luck on your search. Jill #59140

My '59 says "IVORY". Car was white when I got it. I remember reading in Vette Vues back in the 80's where the color was written in grease pencil. I think it was like 11pm when I was reading it in bed one night. I jumped outa' bed, ran down into the garage, and started tearing the trunk liner out. Took a quarter and rubbed the area the mag said to check. Bingo. I slept good that night when I eventually went back to bed.

In 61 & 62. they wrote it on the partition behind the passenger seat. Also, if the car was delivered with a Hard Top, "HT" was penciled there too. Car was white when I got it.

My 60 FI car I owned some years back also had it on the panel behind the passenger seat.

How would someone tell if the coves were painted a different color then the body?

Good info Al....I didn't know they put it there in '60 also. When was that car built?

I don't think is was marked in crayon anywhere. Maybe only the paperwork with the job number had that two-tone info. Since it was extra cost, it had to be documented somewhere I suppose.

The only way I could think of now would be to see telltale paint lines or overspray or drips in the cove trim holes on the inside of the doors. But then again, these cars are very old with many chances of repaints.

Interesting........It appears it was marked in different locations within the 1960 model year.
