    65/66 calipers judged?

I am rebuilding a brake system on a 66. It actually has the origional calipers, very different looking than 67 to 82. Should I rebuild thease for judging or put on a newer type I have on the shelf and save them, I believe the only time you look at calipers is in bowtie judging, Correct?

They are only looked at to see that the machined areas have no paint and of course color. Might also look for the Delco name to make sure they are originals. I don't think any one looks for dates although they should if they can be seen.

Inboard casting number is visible front and rear. Not to much more effort than the Delco name. Not to sure anybody looks that close. But if the current trend is caliper casting numbers they could look closer. The machined areas as Russ says, is easier to see because of contrast.

        William------

I don't see that the 65-E67 calipers appear externally very much different than later calipers, especially, the L67-73 variety. The main difference is the casting numbers and the fact that the 65-E67 use place bolts for caliper half fasteners and L67-82 use standard hex bolts.

Internally, though, the calipers are quite a bit different with the 65-E67 having piston guides in the bores whereas the L67-82 have no such guides

William, If they were mine I would have the originals overhauled and put them back on the car.

            William,

Lonestar will rebuild yours and retain the 1st design look with the insulators. They go to all the larger swap meets and are really easy to work with.

I had my original 1st design 66 calipers re-sleeved retaining the original style pistons. It pleases me to retain them in their original configuration even tho it can't be seen.
