    Tranny rear oil seal

I'm not impressed with Paragon. I ordered the only oils seal at the drive shaft for a 73 M20 that they sell led to believe that one size fits all since they state the yrs.

Turns out that it is too small. After I looked into it, I found out that their is 2 output shafts, 32 and 27 splines. The ones that they sell is for the 27 spline.

After an exchange of emails, they say they don't have the 32 spline seal and are basically clueless. The will refund my $8 if I return it which would cost me at least $5--Ya sure.

Other vendors have both seals and make it obvious on which to get. How can they sell for so long and not run into this before- I'm puzzled.

I think my business with them has just ended.

I wanted to post this so no one else falls into this.

Did you try to get the rear transmission seal at Auto Zone, Advance Auto, NAPA or Oreilly's if they are in your purchase area?

I have no idea why they would not know this. 1963-70 Muncies of all variants use the 27 spline output shaft and 1971-74 Muncies use the 32 spline.

The GM part number for the seal was GM #8626009 but it was recently discontinued. No problem as this was a National brand seal, anyway. It's National #9449. Any good parts store ought to be able to get you one quickly, maybe even from store stock.

          Thanks Joe,
I did look into the GM part number for both seals. Also section 4.318 GM #8626009 as you say and also GM #3932255 which is the only one Paragon sells and indicate that it covers everything.
I gave Paragon all this info. They don't even stock 8626009.

I went to Corvette central for the part. They make it very plain on which seal goes where.

I think they should have reimbursed the $8 without me going thru the hassle of shipping the wrong part back. This is another thing that ticked me off.

Prior to this, I ordered 3 screws from them to hold on the clutch boot at the firewall, The screws are too short and will not pick up so I couldn't use them. I went to Lowes and picked up exactly the same screws of the right length.

You'd think that being in business for many decades, that these kind of things would have gotten sorted out long ago.....assuming they care.

As a positive note, they sent me plastic clutch bushings (that are as fragile as egg shells) in a bag that were broken because of careless packing, They did replace those without any hassle.

What I'm puzzled about is how can they be in business for so long and not run into these discrepancy before?
