What year did GM change to new part numbers ?

For example I have 2 NOS 68-82 power window switches. Both in the same style blue, white & black box. One is # 4434584 the other is 1725109. Both switches look identical.

    Larry------

GM #4434584 was discontinued and replaced by GM #1725109 in January, 1977. It's possible these are different GM divisional part numbers for the same part. 4434584 looks like it might be a Fisher Body Division part number. I'm not sure what division the 1725109 is from.

Thanks Joe. I know these power window switches were used in Pontiacs, possibly other Divisions as well. Did each Division have it's own number for the same part ?

No, generally there would be only one part number for a part. Very often, Chevrolet Division part numbers would be used on other GM car lines. Sometimes, the other car division part numbers would be used on Chevrolet. I don't know of a case in which the same part would carry different part numbers from the CAR DIVISIONS. There may be some cases, but, if so, I've never encountered it.

Things can get a bit more complicated with part numbers from the parts manufacturing divisions (e.g. Fisher Body, AC Spark Plug, Rochester, Delco-Remy, etc.). Those divisions had their own part numbers. Sometimes, one of the car divisions would establish its own divisional part number for one of the parts manufacturing division's part numbers. I don't know why they did this but, sometimes, they did.
