    Judging a replacement windshield

I have a question when judging a replacement windshield, since LOF is no more, for many years, and was brought out by Pilkington does there windshield still fall under a non OEM windshield? Debatable?

    Yes, no debate.

The Standard Deductions for windshields (and other glass) are in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual. You will not find the word Plinkington in there.

You can still get repro w/s with LOF on it.

Ed - you can get them to reproduce a clear windshield that will pass without a deduction however, the tint is not typical thus falling under standard deduction

Ed's question asked if considering mergers and by-outs was Plinkton considered an OEM. I will stand by my answer.

Pilkington didn't exist as a domestic glass supplier until the late '80's or early 90's.

Not sure if this applies, but I bought a replacement WS from Pilkington 2 years ago. I still had my original '64 WS which I cracked when removing it. I gave Pilkington all of the details of what was etched on my original WS and they reproduced everything including the LOF logo, date code, little arrow, etc. Nowhere on the WS does the name "Pilkington" appear. I received no deduction at Kissimmee, even though I read somewhere on this TDB that the tint band at the top of the WS was not as original. FWIWDoug

And, the windshield "appears as original". Pilkington is your only bet and I believe the tint ban is not as original and will get a deduct by most judges but it's as good as it gets.

Well I went through the regional with the Pilkington windshield and received a full deduction with no points award for the windshield (20 original &20 cond.) I really only thought the point would have been 90% by the standard deduct. But there must be a reason behind this. I guess I will have to buy a reproduction windshield as I plan on the national in R.I. in 2016.

                      Edward,

Is your windshield tinted? The reason I ask is that everything I have ever read about tinted replacement windshields says that NOBODY makes one that will pass judging. BTW, I'm originally from R.I. What town is the Nfational going to be in 2016?

Lief, Yes the windshield is tinted and I guess this why no points were awarded. The 2016 R.I Nationals will be in Providence I believe, My understanding is it will be a outdoor event??

                          Newport would be so cool.

The actual town for the National is Warwick. If we went to downtown providence the trailers would have to park about 15 miles away. It's close to the airport and to Rt.95.
