    65 rear strut rod question

Did the rear strut rod have a decal or sticker around the shaft when new . After glass beading both of mine show areas where there could have been a sticker. These are not paint dabs .DSCN1668.jpgDSCN1670.jpgDSCN1671.jpgDSCN1672.jpg

Bill, I have never seen a label on a factory strut, But maybe a GM replacement had labels.

I agree with the others that original rods would not have had a label whereas a SERVICE piece likely would have. However, in this case, I don't think that the appearance of the area in question was caused by a label. If you will note, the surface texture of the area is smoother than the remainder of the shaft. A label would not have caused this. Quite the opposite. The label would have protected the shaft and prevented any smoothing due to handling, etc.

Joe the label did protect the shaft . There is much less pitting under the label . I agree they could have been new shafts . The car was last driven in 1973 and sat outside in a gravel lot for 7 years until I bought it .

The area of the shaft on either side of the smooth area does not look like corrosion-induced pitting to me. Maybe it's just the picture but it looks more like the natural, as-forged finish.
