Did the rear strut rod have a decal or sticker around the shaft when new . After glass beading both of mine show areas where there could have been a sticker. These are not paint dabs .DSCN1668.jpgDSCN1670.jpgDSCN1671.jpgDSCN1672.jpg

Re: 65 rear strut rod question
Bill, I have never seen a label on a factory strut, But maybe a GM replacement had labels.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Bill------
I agree with the others that original rods would not have had a label whereas a SERVICE piece likely would have. However, in this case, I don't think that the appearance of the area in question was caused by a label. If you will note, the surface texture of the area is smoother than the remainder of the shaft. A label would not have caused this. Quite the opposite. The label would have protected the shaft and prevented any smoothing due to handling, etc.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 65 rear strut rod question
Joe the label did protect the shaft . There is much less pitting under the label . I agree they could have been new shafts . The car was last driven in 1973 and sat outside in a gravel lot for 7 years until I bought it .- Top

The area of the shaft on either side of the smooth area does not look like corrosion-induced pitting to me. Maybe it's just the picture but it looks more like the natural, as-forged finish. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
