Does anyone know the actual date the 40248 fuel pump was last used on a 396 and a 40366 was used in its place ? I know #16120 had a 40248 . What should #17346 built May 12 have ? When I bought it 1980 it had a 40366 but it also had a Chevelle block in it at the time .

Re: 396 fuel pump
Bill,
Are you sure there was a change in fuel pumps for the 65 Corvette 396 during the production year?
My 1965 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (May 1965) lists GM # 6415962 as the GM part number for the 65 Corvette (396) fuel pump. The number listed in the 65 Corvette AIM is 6440248 (an AC part #) (See UPC L78, C1). Logic tells that GM # 6415962 = AC # 6440248 = AC # 40248 but I have no actual written evidence to prove it.
My 1966 & 1967 Chevrolet Parts Catalogs (Oct. 1965 & May 1967) also list GM part number 6415962 for the 65 Corvette (396) fuel pump as well as GM # 6416245 for the 66 Corvette (427) fuel pump. The number listed in the 1966 Corvette AIM is 6440366 (an AC part #)(See UPC L36, A2). I know that GM # 6416245 = AC # 40366 = AC # 6440366.
GM # 6415962 (AC # 40248, I assume) was still available over the counter until August 1967 as per Chevrolet Parts History and was replaced with GM # 6416245 (AC # 6440366 or 40366).
I have seen a photo of an original 66 Corvette (427) AC fuel pump that was stamped "AF 40366" (possibly owned by Wayne if I remember correctly) where the "AF" = January 1966. The "40248" AC pumps may or may not have a 2-letter date code stamped on them. I did a lot of research on AC fuel pumps with and without stamped date codes a few years ago.
