    1986 Power Antenna

The antenna on my 1986 Cvt runs all the time. I have to take the fuse out to stop it, which also stops a lot of other things, Rock Auto shows 2 AC Delco #'s, 88891017, and 88891020 for base models. I didn't know there was a base model 1986 Vette, do they mean coupe & Convertible.

Can these babies be rebuilt, or am I in for a new one??

    TIA, Marty

    Re: 1986 Power Antenna

What I did several years ago with my 1985 Corvette when the antenna did what yours is doing was remove the plastic around the rear hatch latch and disconnected the electrical plug for the electric antenna and this stopped the running. The antenna remains in the down position and still is able to pick up the radio stations I want to listen to. I have the plastic antenna part to install in my 85's antenna but since the radio still receives radio stations, I am not in any hurry to remove the antenna and replace part.

IIRC 1986 antennas are different from 1985. I replaced an 85 years ago back when I could lie on the ground and work. (At 81 I can still lie on the ground, I just can't get up)

The 1985 and 1986 Corvette antenna assemblies were the same------both were GM #5049063 in PRODUCTION.

The SERVICE antenna from day-one was GM #22062597. However, it was discontinued in the last year and replaced by GM #88891017. The latter is a more-or-less "generic" replacement. It has over 1500 applications in SERVICE. The GM #88891020 will also work but it's an even more "generic" replacement with almost 5,000 SERVICE applications. Of the two currently available, I'd use the 88891017.

However, if I were going to replace the complete antenna, I think I'd be looking for an NOS GM #22062597.

Can these units be rebuilt? Yes, they can. Generally, the problem relates to breakage of the mast lift and retract cable. Unfortunately, the cable/mast assembly, GM #22038195, and cable-only assembly, GM #22038895, have been discontinued without supercession. Once again, you could look for NOS.

By the way, is that 24/7 prime rib any good?

"By the way, is that 24/7 prime rib any good?" It's pretty good. All depends on when the last time you had meat was!!

Thanks, Joe - been to Essex Lobster lately??

Oh, yes. I was in New England the last two weeks in July. Made several WONDERFUL trips to Essex Seafood as well as numerous other seafood eateries. In all, I had 25 lobsters, 15 pounds of steamed clams and many pints of fried clams and fried scallops. The latter fried items at The Causeway in Gloucester, The Clam Box in Ipswich, and Farnums in Essex. And I didn't gain a single pound!

We have not been back to NE in several years. Need a trip for just the results you list, as well as the grandkids.
