I am trying to get the exhaust back under my 73 and get them aligned properly and "tucked up" under the car properly. I referenced the 73 Judging Manual, the 73 GM Service Manual and the 73 Assembly Manual. There is some discrepancy in proper configuration depending on where you look. The 73 Judging Manual and the 73 GM Service Manual both reference the muffler being attached to the rear exhaust bracket by a tab on the rear of the muffler with a muffler clamp serving to hold the tip in place. The 73 Assembly Manual shows the clamp being used to attached the muffler to the rear exhaust bracket ( a different bracket than previously mentioned) and the same clamp also holds the exhaust tip in place. (My car was configured this way and when I ordered new rear brackets I received the same style bracket that was on my car. So Which is correct? Thanks in advance for your input. Don Mason

The 1973 exhaust extensions ("tips") and the hanger clamps were unique to that year. The extensions were similar to, but not the same as, the 70-72 extensions. The hanger clamps were completely different. As far as I know, the configuration and assembly as shown in the 1973 AIM is correct. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Yes, and these mufflers were also a one-year-only item.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Don,
That sure is true! Unfortunately the '73-74 is only on the second edition, it hasn't been updated in a looong time.
