      Barry,
Someone already mentioned the over fill, but the manual says, with trans cold the level is to be 1/2 " below the fill hole. It will rise higher when hot, but some long time experts say that is to much and I recommend about 1" below. 1" will lube the trans just great as the always spinning gears pick the oil up and sling it everywhere. There is not a seal for the input shaft and oil can & will come out with heavy braking, and overfill condition. I have seen seals in the front bearing retainer on some munches but I don't remember what year or if it was a special mod which I have done on a few myself.
1 quart is more oil that could leak out if the gasket were missing. Also that gasket has a drain hole that let's the oil return to the case after it passes thru the front bearing.

Barry,When I restored my 65 I rebuilt the Muncie and it leaked from the counter shaft. I knew the trans was okay so I just moved it back from the bell housing and placed RTV over the end of the exposed shaft and buttoned it up. Have not had a leak in two years. I have a slight leak at the tail shaft seal so may try Dom's oil level to solve that issue.Dale

          Dale,
Good post about the possibility of the shaft leak between the trans and the bellhousing. I have used RTV on all my installations after finding a oil leak at the shaft years ago.
